A stand alone read with a HEA. I read this story back in 2012 way before I knew anything about reviews. Now I know how important they are to readers as well as authors so I have gone back and reviewed some of the books I missed.

This is a great story. A young widow finds herself falling for her ex-husband's best friend. There are some secrets that she needs the answers to so she asks his help. She has no idea that he has loved her for years but she was totally off-limits but now? These two come together and this is their story of finding a HEA. I thought it was a great read and I definitely recommend it. Great love story. FYI, I do keep notes on every book I have read since I was given my Kindle.

I have often wished I possessed the talent to bring people to life through the pages of a book...regretfully I do not have an ounce of ability to write fiction...This is another good book by a most talented story teller...read and enjoy....I have yet to be disappointed with the twenty four books I have read and looking forward to number twenty five....
I enjoy Barbara Freethy's writing but I was disappointed by this book. In a nutshell, Rachel is the young widow of Gary. When she finds out his life insurance policy may not pay out, she goes to see his best friend, Dylan, for help figuring out what really went on during the weeks leading up to his death. What happens between them is pretty predictable. It just felt wrong to me that in the process of looking into Gary's death, their old flame is rekindled. It was too soon and under the wrong circumstances. One moment Rachel is unsure if she should trust Dylan, the next he is everywhere. Attraction overrode reason a little too often in this story.

Rachel as a character annoyed me. I found her to be weak and selfish. Dylan was just okay. Rachel's sister Carly also annoyed me. She would rather marry some guy she doesn't love then admit to her family that she's an artist? Silly. I felt like there were too many secrets that led to unnecessary assumptions. This book was predictable and not very exciting.
What an emotional rollercoaster. To love and to have loss and to find love again. With so many secrets it's only love that could bind. Freethy, carefully crafted Love Will Find A Way, with Rachel and Dylan playing key rolls. After losing Gary and having to cope with uncertainty, it was interesting to see how the past would shape the future. You will feel ever emotional with this story because it touches at the core of the unknown. Is love enough? What are you willing to sacrifice for love? With sub characters Carly and Travis, it was easy to see that love hits you when you least expected it.
I really did enjoy this book. Throughout the entire book I was always anticipating what was going to happen next. I do admit.. sometimes I would skip a few paragraphs in certain chapters because it felt details I didn't really need but that could just entirely be me. I love the main characters (Rachel and Dylan). The author created these characters who were mature and like a lot of books I've been reading lately.. they were extremely well thought out and were good, honest, mature people. With Rachel's husband dying a sudden death and asking Dylan to help her find the clues to the puzzle as to why he had died.. this book goes up and down and all around. Rachel and Dylan struggling with the connection between them while Rachel taking care of her son Wesley and finding the clues to her husbands death and maintaining her life on her apple farm.. this girl had a whole lot going on but still managed to keep everything together.. somewhat. This book will make you want to cry, make your heart swell from joy.. and esp anticipate the next chapter. Very good book and I plan on reading more from Barbara Freethy.
that is pretty much what happens when a "country girl" meets (again) the "city boy" she knew as her husband's best friend.....a whole lot of pages of the "girl" saying those things to herself, over and over and over "i will, i can't, i won't, maybe i can, no i can't, i shouldn't, i will, no, i can't".....

it's an o.k. book, kind of a palate cleanser for me. needed to deal with some extreme stress, and this book was stressless, just a mild story, kind of old style, fairly stock characters (the husband is blonde and carefree -"light"- and the best friend and hunk, naturally, is intense, brown-haired and brooding -"dark"). have to look at the publication date, this seems to be a very old fashioned story.

at least there is nothing explicit spelled out here, that i do appreciate. it's a nice relief-some books have such detailed explicit "hook-ups" described all throughout the book. not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's nice to read a pg-13-ish book for a change....this book is all about the characters and the generic setting of "city" vs "country". and some silly thread about "magic" apples....lame.

the writing is o.k., nothing great,; there is a slight mystery, as a second plot, to help fill up the pages.

not a bad book, just a bland one. it's inoffensive, but there are a lot better books around if you are looking for a not so heavy romance i recommend anything by jill mansell (uk writer), or jennifer weiner. both are wonderful writers, whose books are about relationships and romance, with minimal, pg-13, "hookups", and less generic characters- plus some humor. check those out.
While I usually love Freethy's books, I can't give this one the top 5 star mark because I find the heroine and her sister to be a bit naive for American women in the modern age. However, despite its faults, it still turns into a good "second chance" love story. The hangups of the 2 sisters and the hero are partly explained by their backgrounds, but there are things that give me pause (like too many unnecessary secrets being kept). That being said, it's still a good read for a rainy day.
